What's Happening NOW!

The Historical Commission is digital!  In addition to this website, CCHC has a Facebook account. And if you go to www.chambers.lib.tx.us, and click on Collections, then Local History, and finally, drop down to Digital Collections, you move to our latest project.  Named Montage, this software is our attempt to provide access to the items housed in the Museum at Anahuac, as well as items archived at the Chambers County Library.  We hope in the future to expand to include items housed at the Museum at Wallisville as well.

Anyone with a local family history file, or photographs of people, street scenes, businesses, or special events held in the county in the 1800s or 1900s is encouraged to share them with us.  We will digitize them and add to our Montage collection for all to share.

Meeting Dates & Times
Historical Commission meetings are usually held on the 4th Saturday of the month at the Chambers County Library in Anahuac, 404 Cummings Street.  Meetings begin at 9:00 a.m.

Dr. Schilling Medical Office & Chambersea, Home of Gen. Thomas Jefferson Chambers

The Chambers County Historical Commission maintains the Museum at Anahuac, which also includes the Dr. Schilling Medical Office and Chambersea, the former home of General Thomas Jefferson Chambers.

These three collections are located on Cummings and Washington Streets in downtown Anahuac, and may be seen by stopping at the Chambers County Library, located next door.

The Chambers County Museum at Wallisville Heritage Park, just off Interstate 10 at the Trinity River Bridge, is a privately funded collection of items relating to the history of Wallisville and the surrounding areas.  It houses the County's largest collection of genealogical research materials for all states. Buildings at Heritage Park include the old schoolhouse and a church.

The Barbers Hill Museum, located in the City Hall complex on Eagle Drive in Mont Belvieu, is managed by the City of Mont Belvieu. It provides a record of the history of West Chambers County, and features the extensive oil production in the area.
