The Chambers County Historical Commission recognized the 100 Year Anniversary of the Anahuac First United Methodist Church by placing the Commission’s Old House Recognition Sign in front of the church as a part of the church’s 100 Year Celebration held on October 9th and 10th. The church building, which qualifies as an historical structure, was dedicated in 1950.
The celebration began on Saturday afternoon with a hamburger cookout, followed by the sign placement and a Gospel Concert by The Methodist Maniacs from Pt. Arthur. Two former pastors, Rev. Everett McCollum and Rev. John Black attended the Saturday festivities.
Sunday started with a breakfast in the Methodist Center followed by a devotional led by R.B. Scherer, Jr. Bro. Everett was guest preacher for the morning services and the celebration concluded with a lunch of Cowboy Stew cooked by Dr. Booster Stephenson and his chuck wagon crew. The event was well attended by church members and friends from throughout the community.
Norma Ezer was Chair of Celebration Committee which planned and directed the activities. Linda Kay Barnhart conducted the T–shirt and souvenir sales and Amy Turner designed the Pictorial Directory with over fifty years of photographs depicting the life of the church. Souvenirs and the Directory are still available for purchase through the Church Office. |
