For the first time in four years, the Chambers County Historical Commission presented essay awards in all three Chambers County School Districts. In the previous years, only Barbers Hill School District participated but for 2009, Anahuac and East Chambers participated as well. The theme for the 2009 contest was how Hurricane Ike affected the student, their family, their community and their county. First place winners each received a trophy and a $50.00 Savings Bond. The Savings Bonds were provided by Security State Bank in Anahuac. The first place winner for Barbers Hill Middle School was Samantha White. For East Chambers, the first place winner was Zoe Zbranek for East Chambers Middle School. Anahuac was the only district with participants from both the Middle School and the High School. The Middle School winner was Kyrie George and Kaitlin McGraw won for the High School. All students that participated received a Certificate for their efforts. The contest drew some 150 participants and the Historical Commission is looking forward to even more participants in 2010 with participation from all three School Disticts |
