Bobby J. Wheat, Chair of the Chambers County Historical Commission announced today that the installation of a piece of by gone history has been completed in front of the Archives/Museum Building in Anahuac.

The Commission proudly announces the placement of the first new (antique) parking meter in the downtown district of Anahuac.

The antique, operable meter will be utilized to off-set operating expenses of the museum. The new “old” meter, which will charge
1 cent for the first 12 ½ minutes or 5 cents for 60 minutes, is expected to produce as much as 40 cents per day or $2.00 per week
if utilized to its fullest potential. This could lead to a whopping $80 to $90 per year being brought into the local economy.

The public is encouraged not to “mob” the meter. There will be ample time for everyone to get their turn while visiting the Historical Commission Museum. The first 10 customers to use the meter may obtain a Permit inside the Museum by paying a fee of 6 cents.
